Professor Irshad H. Chaudry：

Irshad H. Chaudry, PhD is a Professor of Surgery, Microbiology, Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology at the University of Alabama Birmingham (UBA). He is also the Director of the Center for Surgical Research at UAB. He was the Vice Chairman, Department of Surgeryat UAB from 2000 to June, 2016. He started his academic career at Washington University School of Medicine in 1971, then moved to Yale University in 1996; to Michigan State in 1996; to Brown University in 2000; and has been at UAB since 2000. Prof. Chaudryis a member of the editorial board of several national/international journals. He is also an AD HOC reviewer for numerous journals and is serving as the Editor-in-Chief of SHOCK. He was bestowed an Honorary Membership in the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, and also in the Society of University Surgeons. He has served as the President of the Shock Society, Surgical Infection Society, and the International Federation of Shock Societies. Prof. Chaudry has trained over 100 Post-Doctoral Fellows and Students who have gone on to become academic leaders themselves. He has published over 643 manuscripts/review articles in peer reviewed journals, and has served as a regular NIH Study section member for 7 years. He has also Chaired the NIH Surgery, Anesthesiology & Trauma Study Section for an additional 2 years. Prof. Chaudry has served on the VA Merit Review Board for Surgery, USAMRMCCDMRP review panel, external Advisory Committee member for Septic Shock Research Program of Naval Medical Research Institute. He is currently serving on the Shriners Hospitals for Children Research Advisory Board, and is a member of DoD Hemorrhage and Resuscitation Research and Development Steering Committee US Army MRMC. Prof. Chaudry received the Senior Faculty Meritorious Research Award from Sigma Xi, Michigan State University Chapter in 1992, the Distinguished Faculty Award at Michigan State University in 1992-1993, the Shock Society Scientific Achievement Award in 1997, and the NIH MERIT AWARD in 1999. He also received the American Heart Association Life Time Achievement Award for Trauma Science in 2005. He has been funded by the NIH, DARPA and DoD grants. His research interests include trauma and hemorrhagic shock, traumatic brain injury, gender dimorphism and the use of sex steroid/sex steroid receptor agonist/antagonist following adverse circulatory conditions.
